Our First Day

Wow! I am so impressed with the stamina and enthusiasm our Kindergartners displayed today. A big thank you to the parents for creating such kind and well-prepared students. I feel like one lucky teacher!

Today we discussed the different procedures that we will be using throughout the year in Kindergarten. We focused heavily on greeting our friends and communicating in complete sentences. This would be a great item to add to your dinner table discussion. For example, in our room we will greet one another each day by saying,

"Good morning, friends! I am happy to be here with you. Today I would like to share..."

Some prompts to try at home are:
  • Parent: Good afternoon! How was your day?; Child: Good afternoon to you! My day was great.
  • Parents: Hello! Would you like to share anything about your day?; Child: Hello! I would like to share...
When talking with your child make a point to communicate in complete sentences and have them reply back in complete sentences. :)

We also worked on transitioning from one area of the classroom to another quickly and quietly. We utilized numerous models of what a good student looks like. Our read aloud was David Goes to School, a book about a young boy who has trouble following school procedures;we then discussed what a good student looks like at Camden Station. The kids had some fantastic ideas! Please continue to discuss respectful behavior with your little ones at home.

All in all, it was a super day and I look forward to many, many more!
