Parents, now is the time to work on those sight words. Please review sight words, old and new, nightly. Soon your student will be moving on to first grade where these words will be imperative to their success as a reader. And, here's the thing, it doesn't have to be boring! Take a look at the activities below for some fun ideas for sight word practice at home!

Check out our class book!
Parents/Guardians,
Last week students studied characteristics of
nonfiction/informational books. Not only did we look at the defining features
of this type of text, but we also created an informational book of our own.
This book is based on information we gathered from the internet and from books.
Each student used the app, ScribblePress, to create their own informational
book on doctors, then each student chose their best page to be featured in our
classroom book. Click on the link to see the finished product. You can also access
the link on our classroom blog!
Have a great day!

Welcome Back
We have had such a wonderful return from the Winter Break. I am so impressed with the reading, writing, and problem-solving that is happening in this room every day. Wow! This week students were introduced to 2 new apps, Doodle Buddy and Scribble Press. Take a look at the kiddos working to create subtraction picture problems with Doodle Buddy, and writing informational books with Scribble Press.

Congratulations to our Writer of the Month!
London
Can you believe that a Kindergarten student wrote this retelling of
Goldilocks and the Three Bears? London Bayless is such a hard worker and
detailed writer. She uses words that give readers clues as to what is happening
in the beginning, middle, and end of the story. See if you can find the words ‘first’,
‘then’, ‘next’, and ‘last’. We are so proud of London and can’t wait to see
what she writes next. Look out world, this is an up-and-coming author!

Lego World
We had a fantastic time with our Lego Day today! This exciting activity was earned from meeting a goal set from our Walk-A-Thon. It was great to see cooperation and creativity from everyone!
